November / December Faves

Faves, Lifestyle

Hello hello helloooooo lovely readers!!

Long time no SEE (well, write). I’m officially on Christmas break from university (FIIIIINALLY) so, naturally, my creative juices are flowing again. I have been resurrected from the blogging graveyard and I’m back to share with you all the things that I’ve been loving during my inexcusably long vacay. Let’s get crackin’.

What I’ve Been Wearing

I have been having an illicit love affair with flared trousers. Oh my god I cannot even BEGIN to tell you how obsessed I’ve been. They are the PERFECT solution to any daytime or night out situation depending on how you style them and I have honestly been living for the trend. Whilst I know they can be pretty pricey, I definitely think they are worth the investment, especially for wearing on a night out during the Winter months. A few pairs in particular that I’ve been wearing non-stop are the ones pictured above. The black velvet-striped and the blue/black velvet patterned pairs are both from Urban Outfitters and were £36.00 each. I also purchased a burgundy pair from the Topshop Petite range (short leg life). I can’t remember the exact price but I’m pretty sure they were around the £30.00 mark. As I said, they’re not the cheapest items in my wardrobe but equally for the amount of wear I’ve already got out of them, they are definitely worth the splurge. Also they look pretty funky too (low-key just trying to live out my Mamma Mia fantasy).

What I’ve Been Watching

I swear to God, university makes it so hard to just sit and watch TV (rightly so) which means I haven’t had nearly enough time to be watching everything on my Netflix list. That being said, I have recently finished watching Atypical, a Netflix Orig that focuses on Sam (a teenager with Autism) in his quest to understand love and find a girlfriend. Over the first few episodes, I wasn’t really sure whether this series was for me; I found it pretty hard to get into. My brother – who had recommended the series to me – encouraged me to persevere and I’m so glad I did. The scripting of the family dynamics are honestly beaut at times. I especially loved Sam’s relationship with his sister, Casey. Even though there were characters and plot-lines I wasn’t a major fan of (weirdly could not warm to the character of Elsa, Sam’s Mom ???) I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who hasn’t seen it. I’ll deffo be there for season 3.

I’ve also been watching a lot of YouTube as I find one-off vids easy to watch while I’m getting ready for uni in the mornings. I’ve always loved Louise Pentland’s weekly vlogs as she’s such a motherly figure, she makes me feel calm when I’m away from home (in the least weird way possible hahaha). I’ve also been watching a lot of Vlogmas vids, in particular Mark Ferris’ and Anastasia Kingsnorth’s (who recently went to NYC and brought back all the feels). Deffo give those a watch if you’re in the market for something a little festive over the next week or so.

What I’ve Been Listening To

Over the past few weeks, I have had Maisie Peters’ EP Dressed Too Nice For a Jacket on repeat. Honestly all day, every day. Making dinner in the kitchen? Maisie Peters. Driving in my car? Maisie Peters. Doing uni work? Maisie Peters. Her voice is so lush and her songs are super catchy. My faves change quite regularly but I love You To You and Details. I’ve also been loving a little bit of Ariana. If thank u, next isn’t my most played song of 2018 (even though it only came out in November) I will be very shocked. She seems to be releasing banger after banger recently with imagine being added straight to my playlist.

What I’ve Been Using

IMG_2945

Perhaps a little unpredictably, I have reached back into my makeup drawer for the highly controversial ABH Subculture palette. Whilst it received very disappointing reviews (from myself included) I’ve kind of discovered a strange love for it. At the beginning of November, I was very much into a glittery eye and would depend on my NYX glitter in ROSE for every night out (see pictured my horrifying Halloween makeup lol). However, over the past few weeks, I’ve really been feeling a matte look, particularly an orangey transition with a bold colour packed all over the lid. Subculture is perfect for supplying these kinds of shadows. My fave one to use has been Axis as I think green is complimentary to my eye colour but I’ve also dipped into All Star which is a deep, burgundy shade (perf for Winter).

What I’ve Been Doing

I really wish I had some cool things to write which make me look like I’ve been living the high life but in reality, I’ve been consumed by university life. I’m now in my final year so it’s really time for me to be cracking down and trying to manage the workload that my degree brings. I did manage, however, to sneak in a few nights out and celebrations along the way. In terms of performancey fun, we had our Musical Theatre Autumn Showcase which – although weighed down with major stresses – turned out pretty successfully and I also sang with some lush pals for my friend Liv’s assessment piece which was v enjoyable. In relation to my Christmas holiday plans, I will pretty much be sleeping and avoiding doing my uni work as long as humanly possible. Who knows, I may even get another blog post out before I go back (let’s be real).

As always, thank you for reading or just having a little nose.

I hope you have the loveliest Christmas full of food and fam,

What I Wore: Velvet Purple Culottes / Faded Black Mom Jeans

This month I have two fashion favourites that I couldn’t decide between. The first are these GORGEOUS velvet culottes from Zara – to add to my ever-growing collection. I love culottes as I feel you can either dress them up and wear them for a night out or pair them with a cropped t-shirt and converse and you’re good to go for the day. I think they’re super festive and I know I’ll being getting a lot of wear out of them. Also, they retail for £19.99 in Zara which I think is amazing value!!

Another Zara purchase I’ve been living in throughout November has to be these black Mom jeans. I’ve ALWAYS been looking for the perfect pair of Mom jeans but I’ve never found any that look right. Because I’m so small, a lot of them swamp me and make me look shapeless but I think I have finally found what I’ve been searching for!! I paid around £30.00 for these jeans (don’t quote me) which I think is pretty reasonable. As you can see, I’ve teamed them with this cute D-ring striped belt from Missguided and a black cropped t-shirt from PLT.

What I Watched: Stranger Things

Although slightly predictable, Stranger Things was my obsession throughout early November. Granted, I finished the season over a two-day period but it still counts as being a November fave. I’d been waiting (for what felt like FOREVER) for season 2 to come out as I fell in love with the show from the very first episode. There is something so charming about each of the amazingly talented child actors that makes the slightly weird and creepy show so relatable. Season 2 did not disappoint plot-wise and I literally cannot wait for the third!!

What I Listened To: The Wedding Singer

This month has been filled with musical theatre for me, in relation to what I’ve been listening to. As I’ve mentioned, I directed a show which included a variety of songs from different musicals however I also found out that I’ll be playing the role of Julia in my university’s production of ‘The Wedding Singer’ in 2018. So, naturally, I’ve had the soundtrack on repeat. The music is super feel-good and I’m really excited to start rehearsals next week!! My favourite songs are ‘It’s Your Wedding Day’, ‘Not That Kind Of Thing’ and ‘All About The Green’.

What I Used: Soph X Makeup Revolution Highlighter Palette

IMG_6660IMG_6661

I’m not going to ramble on about this palette for too long as I’ve done a full-length review that you can read here. This has been my go-to product throughout November as pretty much all of the shades are (thankfully!!!) pale enough for me to wear so I can match my highlight to my eyeshadow – which makes me more excited than it probably should…

I’d definitely recommend getting your hands on this gorgeous palette if you can, it’s more than worth the £8.00 it retails for.

October Faves

What I Wore: Cropped Yellow Jumper with Bell Sleeves

I purchased this little Autumnal number from Topshop at the very end of September and it’s become a staple in my ‘it’s suddenly really cold now’ wardrobe. This jumper cost £29 (sans student discount) which I think is relatively reasonable for Topshop prices. It’s super soft and is made really well so you definitely get what you pay for. I’ve never owned any clothes this colour before but when I saw this jumper on the model I knew I had to try it on. I feel like it goes really well with an all-black outfit as it adds a pop of colour. I’ll deffo be taking another trip to Topshop soon to purchase some more Winter jumpers.

What I Watched: Confession Tapes

Confession Tapes was definitely my Netflix addiction during October. If you’ve read any of my Monthly Faves before, you’ll know I’m a big fan of crime dramas and documentaries so when I saw ‘Confession Tapes’ come onto Netflix, I was super excited. Essentially, each episode focuses on a different case in which a suspect is forced into making a confession for a crime they may not have committed. The show documents the history of the crime, followed by the police’s process to convicting a suspect. It’s so interesting – each episode had my friend Lucy and I hooked. If anything, I wanted the series to be longer as there were only 8 episodes but I’m hoping Netflix bring out some more in the near future. I’d definitely recommend this if you haven’t seen it!!

What I Listened To: Lewis Capaldi / Havana / 21 Chump Street

Lewis Capaldi honestly has one of my favourite voices ever. I love his songs and have them on constant repeat. He’s only released 4 songs so far so I’m hoping for an album soon. If I had to pick my actual song of the month though, it would have to be Havana by Camila Cabello.

MT-wise, I’ve been obsessing over 21 Chump Street, a mini-musical written by Lin Manuel Miranda. If you read my September Faves, you’ll know that last month I was loving Hamilton (and still am) but then I discovered 21 Chump Street. The music is trademark Lin, which is why I love it. My fave song has to be, “What The Heck I Gotta Do”.

What I Used: Nivea Express Hydration Primer

IMG_6650IMG_6652

The change of the seasons sadly means the reoccurrence of my dry skin, especially on my face. This month I’ve been using the Nivea Express Hydration Primer which I picked up from Superdrug for only £2.39 (like, what!??!!!). The name honestly does not lie – this primer is the most hydrating I’ve ever tried. It’s a very thin, wet consistency and applies a clear sheen to the face. It helps my foundation sit nicely, avoiding the cling to any dry patches (which nobody wants). I’d 100000% recommend this product for anyone who has normal to dry skin.

I hope you’ve had an amazing October!! I’m super excited for November because it means I can start counting down to Christmas and no-one can be frustrated by it hahaha. I just quickly want to apologise for the inconsistency in blog posts; moving back to university has been so much busier and more stressful than I thought it would be so unfortunately my little blog had to take a back-seat for a couple of weeks. However, I’ve got some super exciting posts planned so hopefully you will enjoy those!!

What I Wore: Oversized MOTO Blue Denim Jacket

Although this is quite a basic piece, it has recently become a staple in my wardrobe. This jacket retails at £45 in Topshop but I managed to snag it for £22 in the sale (a moment I am still very proud of!!). The reason I’ve been loving this jacket so much is that it literally goes with ANY outfit. Going out for a meal? Pair it with a skirt and cute t-shirt. Having a chill day? Wear it with joggers and trainers (as pictured). I just love the look it gives an outfit and I’m currently looking into purchasing the same jacket but in black. Looooove this.

What I Watched: How To Get Away With Murder

I realise I’m super late on the bandwagon with loving this show but it’s been on my Netflix list for ages and I’ve finally had the chance to start watching it…and I am completely obsessed. If you know me you’ll know I love anything crime-related, be that documentaries or films so I find the criminal law aspect of the show fascinating. I’ve wanted to find a series for so long that grips me in the way that Pretty Little Liars did (well the first 5 seasons, the rest were questionable!!) and I have finally found that. I would 100% recommend this show to anyone looking for something new to watch that is gripping and leaves you clicking the ‘skip to next episode’ WAY before the 10 second time limit is up (lol this is me). If that isn’t reason enough, the show also features Viola Davis who is a freaking QUEEN.

What I Read: One Of Us Is Lying by Karen M McManus

As with TV shows, I’d hit a bit of a lull with reading. I had been unable to find any books that piqued my interest…until I read this one. One Of Us Is Lying is the debut novel by Karen M McManus. It centres around four students: Addison, Nate, Cooper and Bronwyn. The book begins in detention where all four of these students have ended up coincidentally..including a fifth student named Simon. Simon is the writer of an ‘anonymous’ blog that leaks students’ secrets that are circulating through their high school. During detention, Simon dies suddenly, leaving Addison, Nate, Cooper and Bronwyn prime suspects to what is classified as a murder.

I thought this book would be pretty average but I ended up finishing it on the train journey home the same day it was purchased. It really was a page-turner and was something a little different to what I usually read. I will definitely be purchasing Karen M McManus’ next novel.

What I Listened To: Julia Michaels / Taylor Swift

Album-wise, I’ve been listening to Julia Michaels’ Nervous System. I’ve always loved the singles she has released so thought I’d give her album a nosey. It’s your typical girly album with empowering lyrics that are impossible not to sing along to. My fave songs would have to be Just Do It and Pink.

I have also been listening to Taylor Swift’s new song, Look What You Made Me Do. My friend Katie and I absolutely loooove Taylor Swift so I was really excited for the release of her new song. Whilst I didn’t initially LOVE it, it has definitely grown on me and I cannot waaaaait for the album in November.

What I Used: Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

IMG_5394

In the month of August, I FINALLY purchased my own Z Palette and have started filling it with Makeup Geek eyeshadows. I’m completely obsessed with the formula and the way the shadows blend together…definitely some of my favourite shadows. Some of the shades I’ve been reaching for the most have to be Chickadee (warm yellow), Mango Tango (orangey-red) and Morocco (deeper orangey-red). These shadows retail at £4.95 per pan on Beauty Bay so I will warn you that although it may seem like you’re not spending much…the total soon adds up (as my bank account sadly found out!!). I can’t wait to complete my little Z Palette and move onto the next one.

What I Did:

I know I say this every month, but August has honestly been pretty mad: I finished my summer job (yay!!), took one of my besties – Allie – to see The Book Of Mormon in London for her birthday and then watched Half A Sixpence with my Mom. I then celebrated my 19th birthday and performed in my final show with my MT company back at home (veeeeery emotional) and I had the best time. Moreover, it is fiiiiiiiinally time for my family holiday to Portugal, which is why this blog post is actually going up a little early. So, I’m super excited for that!!! Although August has been amazing, I am really looking forward to September as I LOVE AUTUMN and I get to see all my little uni friends again…SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!

I hope you’ve had a lovely August!!

What I Wore: Hoop Earrings

Hoop earrings came into my life towards the end of June when I saw two of my friends wearing them and they looked FIT. I’m that annoying person who got my ears pierced at the age of 12 and have never worn earrings since (with the exception of Prom). I would never have dreamed in a million years that I would be a hoop-lover but here I am telling you all that that is the case. I find that they really dress up an outfit and help to frame my face…I honestly do think that anyone could pull them off. In the space of 2 weeks I have bought five pairs, varying in size and colour. They are definitely going to be a staple of my summer wardrobe. Watch this space!!!

What I Watched: Party of Five / Killer Women with Piers Morgan

867.jpeg

This month I’ve been binging on Party of Five on Netflix. The series is essentially about a family of five children who have recently lost their parents, resulting in the oldest sibling (Charlie) having to take on the responsibly of running the family. It’s a relatively old series (I think 90s) and was originally created to take the slot of the OG Beverley Hills: 90210 on Fox in America. It deals with your typical teen drama topics: sex, drugs, family, relationships and sexuality to name a few. Whilst Party of Five is not my favourite show I’ve ever seen, it’s an easy watch which makes it quite enjoyable so I would definitely recommend if you’re in the market for a new Netflix series.

June also saw the return of Piers Morgan’s documentary series ‘Killer Women’. Whilst I realise that Morgan is an extremely controversial figure who I have very little respect for, I bloody love his documentaries…particularly this one. I’ve always been a lover of crime dramas and documentaries, trying to get into the mindset of criminals to figure out why they commit crimes is something that fascinates me. I also love true stories; so this show is perfect for me. Each episode focuses on one case and one ‘killer woman’. It outlines their story interweaving with an interview with Piers in present day. This programme has me hooked so I would 100% recommend!! (Thursdays @ around 9pm).

What I Read: Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur

IMG_4810

I bought a couple of new books in the month of June but this was the one I was most excited about. As a Theatre student, I looooove appreciating different forms of art and have recently become particularly interested in poetry. Rupi Kaur’s collection of poems, broken down into ‘The Hurting’, ‘The Loving’, ‘The Breaking’, ‘The Healing’ is honestly one of the most beautiful things I’ve read to date. I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is that I love about this book but I’ve read it around 5 times already, always finding a new favourite poem. Love love loooooove this!

What I Listened To: Lorde / Bonnie and Clyde

IMG_4809

Oh my god. Lorde’s new album.

When Lorde first came on the scene, I cannot lie, I thought she was extremely overrated. I liked ‘Royals’ for a short while as it was in the charts but I really didn’t get the hype. Then her album dropped and I have been LIVING FOR IT. The songs are just so chill and so perfect for summer whilst also telling beautiful stories. Her sound is so distinctive and I’m turning into a massive fan. My fave songs at the moment are ‘The Louvre’ and ‘Perfect Places’. Definitely make sure to check it out if you haven’t!!!

From an MT point of view, I have been looooving the Bonnie and Clyde soundtrack. Not only are the songs amazing but the soundtrack features Jeremy Jordan as Clyde. I think that says it all. Perfection. My favourite songs are ‘Bonnie’ and ‘How ‘Bout A Dance’.

IMG_4811

What I Used: Collection Lasting Perfection Correction Concealer in ‘Lemon’

As a lover of the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, I was super excited when the colour correcting products were released. I picked up the shade ‘Lemon’ for £4.19 from Superdrug and it has quickly become one of my holy grail products. However, I don’t use this as a colour correcting product; I actually use it to carve out my brows and act as an under-brow highlight. I tend to put a tiny bit of powder highlighter on top of this but having the concealer acting as a base really helps my under-brow highlight to pop even more. I LOOOOOOVE THIS and will never go back to using normal concealer.

What I Did:

June has actually been pretty crazy. I handed in my final piece of coursework at university which means I AM OFFICIALLY ON SUMMER!!!!!!! I had my Course Ball with all of my friends, went to see The Woman In Black with my gal Allie, went to Windsor, was reunited with my girls at home, performed in MTSoc’s Summer Showcase and went to watch Idina Menzel in concert. More recently, I have been staying in London for some amaaaaazing work experience that I’m super super grateful to have been given the opportunity to do.

I’m looking forward to an equally crazy July!!
