A Little Catch Up

Lifestyle

I am the absolute worst for going AWOL and hibernating when I’m working on a particular project, completing ignoring everything else around me. What I mean by this is that I have been sat, staring at my laptop screen, for up to 8 hours a day over the past two weeks, attempting to type some words onto a page that will enable me to pass my degree…yep, you’ve got it…the dreaded deadline season. If I’m being completely honest, the last thing I wanted to do after an entire day of writing was to write some more…hence, my little blogging break. I thought, now that I’m assignment-free, it would be cute to catch up and fill you guys in on what I’ve been doing and how I’ve been (just about) surviving.

What I’ve Been Doing

In all honesty, the new year has seen many days of me wrapped up in my duvet, binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy and snacking excessively. I’ve been extremely lacking in productivity but have actually really enjoyed having some chilled time-off after what was an extremely emotionally turbulent semester at university. I’ve spent time catching up with my home-girls (not trying to sound cool, just unsure what to label my group of friends from home lol) which has been super nice. They know I’m one of the worst people when it comes to replying to group chat messages (orrrrr even texts that have been sent directly to me) but whenever I’m home it is as if nothing has changed. We celebrated my friend Harriet’s 20th birthday with food (yes) and cocktails (YES) which was a very cute night. I was also able to be reunited with my lovely friend Charl who abandoned me 3 years ago to live in Devon (still not ok!!!!) which again really was the best.

How I’ve Been Feeling

I’ve been feeling goooood. Life is currently at that stage where I have nothing going on for the next week so I can just chill, relax and spend time with my family before I start second semester. This break really has been needed (I mean…really needed). I was struggling a lot at uni before the Christmas break – I felt as if someone was standing with a gun pointed at me, but instead of bullets they were shooting big, SCARY, adult decisions at me that needed to be made quickly. Now, I am a pretty good decision-maker – if I may say so myself – but I like to have a lot of time to process what the consequences of each particular decision may be as change scares the ever-loving shit out of me (which you’ll know if you’ve read any of my previous lifestyle-y posts). So, when I was faced with 3 essays, 2 presentations, an 8-minute solo performance, auditions, co-directing a full-scale musical theatre showcase, rehearsals, homesickness, budgeting, meetings, housing decisions, placement decisions, course decisions, LIFE DECISIONS…yeah, my brain pretty much said no thanks Georgia, not today. I’m pretty sure (and this is going to be 100% a self-diagnosis) that I was – and potentially am still – having a quarter-life crisis (is this a thing????? Probs not). I’m turning 20 this year and I found myself thinking ‘What am I doiNGGG?!?!!?’ I was feeling unhappy more than I was feeling happy which has never happened to me before. This impacted everything I was doing: I didn’t want to go out with my friends but then I would be sad that I didn’t go out with my friends, I wanted to be at home all the time, I wasn’t enjoying my lectures, everything was just a little bit crazy. Now I’ve had time to step away from the situation I honestly think I was just putting too much pressure on myself – so much so, that I was sucking the enjoyment out of everything I normally enjoyed doing. Hence, the hibernation station I’ve had going on this holiday. Although I’m not jumping for joy at the prospect of returning to uni next week (however I am BLOODY EXCITED to see all my little angels aka friends) I feel a lot better about it than I did pre-holiday.

What I’ve Been Loving

Whilst I’ve been in my temporary state of hiding, I’ve had the time to try a few new products / watch new shows / listen to new music. With the lack of my December Faves, I have a few new things that I’ve been loving over the past 6 weeks or so.

IMG_7825

One of which being these No. 141 lashes from Eyelure. Whilst I do like Eyelure lashes, I tend to gravitate more towards Unicorn or Backstage Lashes as I find the quality tends to be slightly better meaning I can get more than one use out of them. However, over the mad sale period, these lashes were reduced to half price (I think I paid around £3.00 for them) and I liked their wispy vibes. I have quite small features so tend to favour a pair of lashes that fan out towards the end, compared to the rounded-look and this pair does exactly that. I have actually ended up being really pleased with this little purchase. I’ve managed to wear this pair twice already as they aren’t overly dramatic but also finish off a makeup look well.

The next thing I’ve been loving is Grey’s Anatomy (as mentioned above). Honestly, it’s embarrassing how quickly I’ve arrived at Season 8 Episode 10 but I really freaking love it. I love all of the characters and the plot-lines are so sad but so bloody good at the same time. I’m completely in love with Patrick Dempsey, Eric Dane and Jesse Williams whilst identifying on a scary level with Cristina. I don’t really know what I’m going to do once I’ve finished all 13 seasons. I’m worried it will be similar to my post-PLL and Gossip Girl phases where I felt very lost for around 3 days after the finales. But for now, it’s constantly on.

I’ve also been loving The Greatest Showman soundtrack (and the film, obvs). I’ve had the soundtrack on repeat ever since Rewrite The Stars was first released on Spotify. If you know me, you’ll know I’ve been planning my wedding to Zac Efron ever since HSM came out so of course I’m going to love anything he does. Add this to the fact that the songs were written and composed by Pasek and Paul (my FAV musical theatre songwriters) and you have a winning combo. My favourite songs have to be The Greatest Show, The Other Side, This Is Me and Rewrite The Stars. Yes yes yes yes.

So that brings us pretty much up to speed. It’s been a chilled few weeks but they were definitely deserved and I now feel recharged and ready to get back into the real world. I promise I’ll start sticking to a blogging schedule once I sort my life out (lol).

Lots of love,

G X

What I Got For Christmas 2017

beauty, Lifestyle

IMG_2548

I’m going to start with the typical, blogger opening you’ve probably already read at least 20 times, but I can’t believe we’re almost at the end of 2017. Honestly, for me, this year has flown by. I’m a good-way into my second year at university (which means scary life decisions are looming) and I’m almost a third of the way through my final year as a teen (equally as scary!!). I just want to quickly apologise for my absolute failure of an attempt at doing ‘Blogmas’ – I had every good intention but the practicality of uni deadlines and the general life rush that occurs during the lead up to Christmas defeated me. I’m super sad because I had some really cute posts planned, but I guess that’ll give me a reason to attempt it again next year! Thankfully, life has calmed down a little bit now which means I’m back to blogging – I have a few posts planned for the next few weeks that are New Year-related so I hope you enjoy reading those. For now, I’d love to share with you a few of the bits I received for Christmas this year.

Sephora Favorites ‘Give Me Some Nude Lip’ – Sephora

IMG_0879IMG_1306

If you read my Christmas Wishlist post, you’ll know that this Sephora gift set was something I had my eye on. My parents went to New York just before Christmas so I was super excited at the prospect of getting a few makeup bits that are harder to get your hands on the in the UK. I think these sets are a really good way of testing out new brands before you pay full price for a product you may not really like. All of these lip products are gorgeous but my favourite (surprisingly for me) is the Ciaté London Liquid Velvet Lipstick.

Sephora Favorites ‘Glow For It’ – Sephora

IMG_4772IMG_4351

I am so bloody excited about this set. Highlighters are up there with my favourite category of makeup products and I’ve been wanting to try some of these brands for the longest time. I’ve heard nothing but good things about BECCA highlighters and I’ve always wanted to try the Cover FX drops. On Christmas day, I combined both of them which left me with the most blinding highlight that I was LIVING for. I’m super excited to try out the rest of these products.

MAC Snowball Pigment and Glitter Kit – MAC Cosmetics

IMG_4302

Again, I’m super excited to have received this cute little MAC set. I’ve never tried their pigments before but I used the champagne-y colour yesterday and I was very happy with it. I’m excited to use the white sparkly pigment soon and am planning to use the gold glitter for New Year’s Eve. These pots should last me a little while as you only need to use the tiniest amount so I think they’re pretty good value. I know MAC have 10% off most products today in the Boxing Day Sales so it would definitely be worth trying to get your hands on this!! They also do a ‘Pink’ version which, as the name suggests, has more pink-y coloured pigments and glitters. I went with the ‘Gold’ set as I tend to wear oranges, browns and burgundys on my eyes.

Too Faced ‘Just Peachy Mattes’ Palette – Sephora

I’ve been obsessed with this palette ever since it dropped with the rest of the ‘Peaches and Cream’ range by Too Faced. Unbelievably, I’ve never tried Too Faced shadows before so I was really excited to receive this. The colours are right up my street – I could happily just use this palette forever. I used this palette on Christmas Day and was really pleased with the pigmentation and how easily the shadows blend. If you want me to recreate the look for a blog post (see below) let me know – I was pretty pleased with how it turned out!

IMG_7666

Grey and Black Nike Trainers – Nike

IMG_5090IMG_3262

These trainers are actually one of my favourite prezzies, as they were a complete surprise. I love the colours as they will literally go with any outfit and they’ve come into my life at the perfect ‘January gym-going’ time. They’re super comfy as they are meant for running, although I will probably just be wearing them on the day-to-day. I will definitely be getting a lot of use out of these as I pretty much live in trainers at both university and home. My Mom did well here!!

Striped Calvin Set – Calvin Klein

IMG_0595

If you know me, you’ll know I’m obsessed with Calvins. They’re just so comfy and I love the look of them, so I was really happy to get this set. I’ve never actually seen this pattern before and I fricking LOVE it. I’m super excited to add this set to my growing collection.

Burgundy Kate Spade Rucksack & Purse – Kate Spade NY

I’m still a little bit in shock about these two presents as I wasn’t expecting them at all. Recently, I’ve been obsessed with rucksacks and if you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know I have a major soft-spot for anything Kate Spade. I’m absolutely in love with the colour of this bag and purse – it’s perfect for the Winter months. Also, I’ve been needing a new purse as my Ted Baker one has been used to death. So yay!!! Absolutely in love.

Those are a few of the lovely presents I received this year. What did you get?

I hope you had a great Christmas!

Lots of love,

BLOGMAS DAY 5: Cute Gift Ideas On A Student Budget

Lifestyle

Christmas present shopping is something I love to do…but not something I love to do on a student budget. It’s so frustrating when you want to get your friends and family the best presents ever but money – or lack thereof – prevents you from doing so. That being said, there are still some super cute things you could get for a friend or ask for yourself. I’m going to list a few things below that I’ve come across that are really nice little gift ideas, all for under £20.00…

The Little Book of Self-Care – Urban Outfitters

I fricking LOVE the book section in Urban. They sell a really cute range of books from ones based on positivity, mindfulness and happiness through to drinking games or jokes. I especially love the books filled with inspiring quotes of how to pick yourself up when you’re feeling down or a little bit low. As cringe as it may be, I really love quotes and find that they help me keep a more positive mindset day-to-day. This book retails for £9.99 which is a pretty decent price for a super cute prezzie.

‘Lips and Tips’ Set – Ted Baker

Screen Shot 2017-12-05 at 19.43.55

I loooove a Christmas gift set, particularly anything released by Ted Baker around Christmas time. This year, this adorable nail varnish / lipstick set caught my eye. I think the pastel pink colour is super cute and will suit anyone so would be a great present regardless of who you’re buying for. I just feel like you can’t go wrong buying a present like this for someone – it retails for £8.50 which, again, is pretty good value.

Christmas Yankee Candle Set – Boots

Screen Shot 2017-12-05 at 19.43.29.jpg

What’s Christmas without a few candles? I came across this set of Yankees on Boots and think this is such a fab prezzie idea. For £8.66, you get six mini Christmas-scented candles which will last you throughout the entire festive season. I also think this is a great way to ‘sample’ some of the scents you may not have smelt before making the plunge and buying the bigger version of the candle. Another super cute present.

Soap and Glory Glow-Ball – Boots

Screen Shot 2017-12-05 at 19.43.17

Another Boots gift set, but really is there anything better at Christmas? I think, especially in terms of makeup brands, buying Christmas sets saves you so much money. This Soap and Glory Glow-Ball retails for £14.00 in-store and online which is amazing value considering the products that are inside. I think the majority of people appreciate some form of  a ‘smelly-bath-stuff’ set at Christmas and this one definitely looks like a good choice. Plus, Soap and Glory products always smell amaaaaazing.

So, those are all the little gift ideas I have for you today. Which is your favourite?

Lots of love,

BLOGMAS DAY 2: What’s On My Christmas List 2017

beauty, Lifestyle

This year, I struggled to think about things I really wanted to ask for for Christmas. However, that mindset quickly shifted once I started scouring Urban / Topshop and Beauty Bay (shock). Also, my parents are going to New York in December so the option of Sephora has made a massive impact to what I’ve ended up asking for. I’m going to share with you a few of the things that have caught my eye…

Just Peachy Velvet Matte Eyeshadow Palette – Too Faced

Screen Shot 2017-12-01 at 23.20.56Screen Shot 2017-12-01 at 23.21.11

Originally, I had my eye on the ABH Prism palette but then I reconsidered as Too Faced is a lot harder to get in the UK than Anastasia. Also, I’ve never tried TF shadows before and I’ve heard amaaaazing things so this palette is definitely something I’m very excited about. It’s part of the Peaches and Cream collection and the colours are just to die for. If I could design a colour scheme for an eyeshadow palette, it would be exactly this. I pretty much only wear oranges and pinky-reds on my eyes so if I was lucky enough to receive this, it would be very loved.

White Classic Leather Reeboks – Reebok

Screen Shot 2017-12-01 at 23.22.09

If you know me, you’ll know I’m a trainer-obsessor. I honestly just think you can never have enough trainers. I wear them constantly, in the day / to rehearsals / on a night out so I like having a choice of styles and colours that I can match with different outfits. Currently, the only white trainers I have are my converse and, whilst I love them, I want something that looks a little bit more ‘trainer-y’ (definitely just made up a word there). That’s when I came across these Reeboks. I have two other pairs of Reeboks and they are honestly the comfiest trainers that I own so I thought these white leather ones would be a cute little addition to my collection.

The Sun and Her Flowers – Rupi Kaur

Again, if you know me, you’ll know I love poetry – in particular, Rupi Kaur’s Milk and Honey. There is something about the way Kaur writes that is so captivating and inspiring. She has recently released her second poetry book, ‘The Sun and Her Flowers’ and I would love to read it. If I don’t receive this for Christmas, I’ll most definitely be making a little purchase myself.

Green Corduroy Pinafore – Urban Outfitters

Honestly, I think this is quite possibly one of the cutest clothing items I’ve ever seen. I love wearing little pinafore dresses, with ankle boots and tights and I absolutely loooove this one from Urban. Firstly, I love the colour as green tends to go quite nicely with my colouring. Aside from this, I’m a bloody sucker for anything corduroy – I can’t even explain it, I just think it’s so cute!! Obviously, being from Urban Outfitters, this dress is on the rather spenny side, so what better than to whack it on the old Christmas list?

Give Me Some Nude Lip – Sephora

Screen Shot 2017-12-02 at 09.39.09Screen Shot 2017-12-02 at 09.39.20

This year, the Sephora holiday gift sets have been insaaaaane, in my opinion. I think it’s such a good idea to group a few cult items together and sell them at a discounted ‘gift set’ price. One in particular that caught my eye is the ‘Give Me Some Nude Lip’ which essentially does give you a variety of nude lipsticks from different brands. If you’ve read my blog posts before, you’ll know I’m a massive nude-lip wearer and rarely stray from this comfort zone. So, I would be super excited trying brands, such as ‘Buxom’, that I haven’t before. It’s definitely true that a girl can never have too many nude lipsticks…

So those are a few of the things that are on my Christmas list this year! I hope you like my picks. What have you asked for?

Lots of love,

Soph X Makeup Revolution Highlighter Palette: Is it worth the hype?

beauty, Uncategorized

IMG_6658img_6659.jpg

If you’re a drugstore junkie, you’ll know that Youtuber ‘Sophdoesnails’ has recently collaborated with Makeup Revolution to bring out an eyeshadow palette and a highlighter palette. The other day I popped into my local Superdrug, saw the pretty display and OF COURSE had to buy something. I couldn’t bring myself to buy the eyeshadow palette as I already have way too many (especially with similar colours in) so instead I picked up the one filled with gorg-looking highlighters. I purchased this palette for £8.00 which I think is so reasonable, considering you get 8 shades. If you don’t want to go in-store, the palette can also be found on the Superdrug website.

IMG_6661IMG_6660

What I like most about this palette is the shade range. There is a highlighter with pretty much every undertone you could realistically use on a daily basis. My favourite shades are the top left, the top right and the pink/purple shade on the bottom row. The colours actually swatch a little lighter than they appear in the pan (as you can see below). Although I still couldn’t wear some of the darker shades on my face, I would totally use them for eyeshadow.

IMG_6662

The formula is pretty powdery, in the sense that they are not ‘wet’ highlighters. This being said, they don’t appear cakey on the face. I tend to mix two different colours so always run the risk of it looking like there is powder on my face but they blend super nicely into my base make-up. I definitely think this product was worth buying, it has become my new staple when it comes to highlighting.

The only slightly annoying thing is that, because of the price, the product packaging has obviously been cheaply made. I’ve had this palette for around 3 weeks and taken great care of it, however the clasp used to open and close the palette is already starting to become loose (which is what has happened to my other Makeup Revolution products). That being said, the actual product inside is amazing so don’t let that put you off purchasing your own!!

Again, just a quick apology. I know my posts have been very few and far between but I’ve been SUPER busy with general life at the moment. I promise I have a very exciting announcement coming soon so hopefully you’ll be looking forward to that!

Let me know if you’ve tried this palette and what your thoughts were.

Beauty Bay Wishlist: Palette Edition

beauty

Juvia’s Place – The Saharan Palette

£30.00

screen-shot-2017-10-20-at-15-31-11.jpg

I’ve been wanting to try products from Juvia’s Place for SO LONG. When they first became popular a month or so ago, I logged on to Beauty Bay to purchase a palette (as they are relatively cheap for a high-end brand, in my opinion) but they were all – heartbreakingly – sold out. I love all of the palettes but the Saharan is definitely my fave as I feel the colours are ones that I know I could/would use on a daily basis. I particularly love the look of the colours Sokoto, Jamila and Senegal. I’ve seen Holly Boon swatch a few Juvia’s Place palettes and the pigmentation looks INSANE. This will definitely be my next Beauty Bay purchase.

Morphe 25A Copper Spice Eyeshadow Palette

£19.00

Screen Shot 2017-10-20 at 15.36.08

Like Juvia’s Place, I’ve wanted to try a Morphe palette for so long. I’m obsessed with their liquid lipsticks so I have no doubt I would love their eyeshadows also. With my go-to palettes being the ABH Modern Renaissance and my Z-Palette I feel like I’ve forgotten how much I love using neutral, brown shades on my eyes. So I think this palette would be perfect as it features pretty much every shade of brown you can imagine. I’m also obsessed with the 3 gold/copper shimmer shades – they look like an absolute dream. For £19, this palette seems like a steal to me.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Sugar Glow Kit

£39.00

Screen Shot 2017-10-20 at 15.33.41If you’ve read any of my makeup-related blog posts before, you’ll know that I’m basically ABH’s biggest fan. So it may be pretty shocking that I’ve never tried any of their glow kits…I’ve just never been able to justify spending £40 on highlighters when I know I love my £3 Makeup Revolution version. However, the newest addition to the glow kit collection has definitely caught my eye. I think the names are all so cute and the shades are gorgeous. I’m quite a pale little soul so a lot of the previous glow kits would have been waaaaay too dark for me. I was obsessed with the Sun Dipped palette but there is no way I could have worn those colours without looking odd. I love the look of Butterscotch and Marshmallow.

So those are a few of the palettes from Beauty Bay I’ve got my eye on at the moment. What have you been loving?

September Faves

Faves, Lifestyle

What I Wore: Black Cropped Wide Leg Trousers

IMG_6031

Throughout September, I’ve been loving wearing my black wide-legged trousers from Miss Selfridge. I’m pretty sure these were around the £25.00 mark which I thought was amazing for trousers of such good quality. They’re super comfy but also look smart so you’re basically winning at life when wearing them. You can wear them dressed-up (as pictured) or can throw on a cute cropped t-shirt and converse for a more day-to-day outfit. I definitely think these trousers were an investment piece that I can always come back to and rely on if I’m in need of a quick, super cute outfit. Yaaaaaaas to these.

What I Watched: RuPaul’s Drag Race (for the second time)

I’ve always been a big fan of Drag Race, having watched every season religiously on Netflix. However, I’ve recently rediscovered my love for the show and have been re-watching every single season. I’m currently on season 8. Some of my fave Queens from all of the seasons are Raja, Alaska, Alyssa Edwards, Adore, Pearl, Violet Chachki and Naomi Smalls.  It’s such an easy show to watch when I’m just chilling in my room or to have on in the background when I’m getting ready. Loooooove it.

What I Listened To: Dua Lipa / Hamilton

This past month I’ve become completely obsessed with Dua Lipa. Whenever I’m listening to music, it will be her album I’m playing. My faves are IDGAF and No Goodbyes. She’s also so gorg I actually cannot cope and her acoustic covers are INSANE.

From an MT perspective, I’ve been loving Hamilton. I know I’m very late to the party but I honestly couldn’t make myself love it when it was first around (and I tried so hard!!!). But NOW, I am actually too in love with the soundtrack. My fave songs at the moment have to be Satisfied, Burn and Say No To This.

What I Read: Colleen Hoover

During September, I went on two holidays to Portugal meaning I had loaaaaaads of time to read again (which made me very happy). I’ve read a few books by Colleen Hoover before and knew I enjoyed them so wanted to get my hands on some of her other novels. The two I particularly enjoyed were ‘Maybe Someday’ and ‘Confess’.

What I Used: Backstage Lashes

IMG_6311IMG_6313IMG_6312

This month I purchased some falsies from the brand ‘Backstage Lashes’ for the first time. I wasn’t too sure what to expect as the products retail at £6.00 a pair but I’d heard lots of good things. I bought the pairs Chelsea and Soho and I was very pleasantly surprised. Both lashes lasted the entire night on a night out without having to be re-glued and the band is thin so, not only are they easy to apply, they look like they could actually be your lashes. For £6.00 each I would 100% recommend this brand – I will most definitely be purchasing some more.

What I Did:

IMG_5971

I hope you’ve all had a lovely September – mine has been pretty crazy as always!! I just want to apologise for the lack of posts recently (I’m the actual worst) – I’ve moved back to uni now so they should be coming more regularly again. I have some exciting Autumnal-themed posts planned so keep an eye out!!

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipsticks: Worth The Hype?

beauty, GIRLS

IMG_6289

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that Rimmel have recently launched their own take on a liquid lipstick. The Stay Matte Lipsticks retail at £5.99 each in Superdrug. Having only recently really got into wearing a liquid lip, I thought I’d give these a go and see if they are worth the hype.

I picked up three different shades, ranging from VERY nude to a hot pink. The reason I did this was to see whether the formula was consistent when the colour was darker. The shades I picked up were 710 – Latte To Go, 110 – Blush and 820 – Heartbeat.

IMG_6292

When I swatched them in-store, I was pleasantly surprised by how creamy the formula felt and how nice the applicator was. However, once I got home and tried them on I started to question how much I liked them. When applied onto the lips, the lipsticks (particularly Blush) needed more than one layer, because they looked patchy with just a single coat. This was absolutely fine to begin with as the formula applied with what seemed to be quite a shiny, creamy finish. However, once the lipsticks had dried, they looked extremely patchy which left me loving life a little bit less.

The darkest shade, Heartbeat, which I was most excited about bled into and OVER my lipliner. Let me tell you now, this was not a cute look for me. Blush was the patchiest of the three (as you can probably tell from the swatch photo) whilst I ended up not loving the colour of Latte To Go (MAJOR foundation-lip vibes were occurring). I’m actually really sad that I didn’t love these products as much as I thought I would. I’d definitely recommend you try them as the formula may work better for you, but for me – a gal with relatively dry lips – they did not bring enough hydration.

I think I’ll be sticking to my Morphe Liquid Lipsticks (which are INSANE) in the future.

What I Wore: Oversized MOTO Blue Denim Jacket

Although this is quite a basic piece, it has recently become a staple in my wardrobe. This jacket retails at £45 in Topshop but I managed to snag it for £22 in the sale (a moment I am still very proud of!!). The reason I’ve been loving this jacket so much is that it literally goes with ANY outfit. Going out for a meal? Pair it with a skirt and cute t-shirt. Having a chill day? Wear it with joggers and trainers (as pictured). I just love the look it gives an outfit and I’m currently looking into purchasing the same jacket but in black. Looooove this.

What I Watched: How To Get Away With Murder

I realise I’m super late on the bandwagon with loving this show but it’s been on my Netflix list for ages and I’ve finally had the chance to start watching it…and I am completely obsessed. If you know me you’ll know I love anything crime-related, be that documentaries or films so I find the criminal law aspect of the show fascinating. I’ve wanted to find a series for so long that grips me in the way that Pretty Little Liars did (well the first 5 seasons, the rest were questionable!!) and I have finally found that. I would 100% recommend this show to anyone looking for something new to watch that is gripping and leaves you clicking the ‘skip to next episode’ WAY before the 10 second time limit is up (lol this is me). If that isn’t reason enough, the show also features Viola Davis who is a freaking QUEEN.

What I Read: One Of Us Is Lying by Karen M McManus

As with TV shows, I’d hit a bit of a lull with reading. I had been unable to find any books that piqued my interest…until I read this one. One Of Us Is Lying is the debut novel by Karen M McManus. It centres around four students: Addison, Nate, Cooper and Bronwyn. The book begins in detention where all four of these students have ended up coincidentally..including a fifth student named Simon. Simon is the writer of an ‘anonymous’ blog that leaks students’ secrets that are circulating through their high school. During detention, Simon dies suddenly, leaving Addison, Nate, Cooper and Bronwyn prime suspects to what is classified as a murder.

I thought this book would be pretty average but I ended up finishing it on the train journey home the same day it was purchased. It really was a page-turner and was something a little different to what I usually read. I will definitely be purchasing Karen M McManus’ next novel.

What I Listened To: Julia Michaels / Taylor Swift

Album-wise, I’ve been listening to Julia Michaels’ Nervous System. I’ve always loved the singles she has released so thought I’d give her album a nosey. It’s your typical girly album with empowering lyrics that are impossible not to sing along to. My fave songs would have to be Just Do It and Pink.

I have also been listening to Taylor Swift’s new song, Look What You Made Me Do. My friend Katie and I absolutely loooove Taylor Swift so I was really excited for the release of her new song. Whilst I didn’t initially LOVE it, it has definitely grown on me and I cannot waaaaait for the album in November.

What I Used: Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

In the month of August, I FINALLY purchased my own Z Palette and have started filling it with Makeup Geek eyeshadows. I’m completely obsessed with the formula and the way the shadows blend together…definitely some of my favourite shadows. Some of the shades I’ve been reaching for the most have to be Chickadee (warm yellow), Mango Tango (orangey-red) and Morocco (deeper orangey-red). These shadows retail at £4.95 per pan on Beauty Bay so I will warn you that although it may seem like you’re not spending much…the total soon adds up (as my bank account sadly found out!!). I can’t wait to complete my little Z Palette and move onto the next one.

What I Did:

I know I say this every month, but August has honestly been pretty mad: I finished my summer job (yay!!), took one of my besties – Allie – to see The Book Of Mormon in London for her birthday and then watched Half A Sixpence with my Mom. I then celebrated my 19th birthday and performed in my final show with my MT company back at home (veeeeery emotional) and I had the best time. Moreover, it is fiiiiiiiinally time for my family holiday to Portugal, which is why this blog post is actually going up a little early. So, I’m super excited for that!!! Although August has been amazing, I am really looking forward to September as I LOVE AUTUMN and I get to see all my little uni friends again…SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!

I hope you’ve had a lovely August!!

ABH Subculture: First Impressions

If you’ve read my 19th birthday post, you’ll know I received the extremely controversial ‘Subculture’ palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills. I was super excited to try this out and to see whether all the negative things I’d been hearing about this product were true.

Appearance-wise, the palette is gorgeous. I love the blue and mustard yellow combination on the packaging and was really intrigued by the colour combination of the shadows. The Modern Renaissance was definitely a more ‘typical’ palette for me, the shades being slightly safer as I’m used to using more warm-toned shadows. But, I loved the Autumn vibes Subculture was giving and wanted to branch out and start creating different makeup looks.

The first thing I did when I opened the palette was swatch the shadows. Of course, being ABH, they were EXTREMELY pigmented and all of the swatches seen pictured are only one swipe-worth of product. I’ve heard others labelling them ‘chalky’ which, I have to admit, I did find but only in certain shadows (mainly the darker ones but also Roxy). However, I wasn’t too surprised or appalled at this as I found exactly the same with my Modern Renaissance palette.

When applying the shadows, I did find them harder to blend and work with than the Modern Renaissance and other products (such as my Makeup Geek eyeshadows), but they are not the worst things I’ve ever used on my eyes. The colour pay off is amazing, due to the pigmentation and I especially like shades such as Roxy, All Star and New Wave. I’ve found it possible to still create my go-to ‘burnt orange smoky eye’ look, which I tend to do as a quick, day-to-day situation on my eyes, whilst I am also able to create some brand new, pretty cool looks. I’ve been loving using the green shades particularly and am planning on uploading a khaki-inspired smoky eye look very soon!!

The one thing I am a little disappointed with about this palette is the shimmer shades. In my MR, the shimmers were some of my favourite shades in the entire palette so I was super excited when I saw the colours that Subculture contained. Cube is a gorgeous white shimmer with a pink reflect whilst Electric is a greeny-gold shimmer (which I was most excited about). Whilst Adorn – a deep gold shimmer – had decent colour pay off (only when applied with my finger), the other two were practically invisible on the eye. I’ve tried applying them dry, wet, with different brushes and my finger and each time the result is just as poor. Because of this, I tend to use the mattes from this palette then dip into my Z palette for a more pigmented shimmer shadow.

Overall, I’d rate this palette a solid 7/10. I love ABH and will continue to buy their eyeshadow palettes in the future. Whilst I’m not LIVING for this palette, I do still like it but it hasn’t topped my MR.

What are your thoughts on the Subculture palette?
